THE LIVING
ROOM: WORSHIP AND PASTORAL CARE
Once
inside, we desire that each person grow in their faith, experience more of God,
and be cared for as part of the family.
The single most common compliment of Church of Our Savior
has been how loving we are. We want that
love to meet people where they are currently at and to walk with them as God
leads them to where He wants them to be.

Brotherhood of St. Andrew
Our
Brotherhood chapter continues to meet on the second Saturday of each month for
breakfast and fellowship. Each month one of the brothers will lead a
discussion focusing on one of the men in the Bible. Sometimes it is
rather intense, always it includes a good dose of laughter. This year, we
also met together with the chapter from St Paul's Anglican Church, Wickham Road, once in Palm Bay and once in Viera. We have
elected Francisco McLennon as chapter director--and are excited to be looking
at adding some outreach to our program. (See
2010 Financial Statement, page 24.)
Children’s Church and Vacation Bible
School
The year 2010 came and went
by quickly but looking back we had a great year. It might not have been quite noticeable, but thank
God we had some very positive moments and experiences. Really we are constantly reminded that God is
at work in our midst and we offer Him our thanks and praise for all things. Thanks to all the teachers who have so ably
and graciously served every Sunday to make Children’s Church a success. To the parents who faithfully bring their
children to attend Children’s Church, and to all supporters who contributed by
way of prayers, encouragement and snacks provided – a big thank you.
Much appreciation to ALL who
participated in Vacation Bible School in any way – tending to the safety and
welfare of the children, barbecuing, serving snacks, registering, teaching,
wiping noses and eyes. Thanks to the
families that attended including those who are not members of Church of Our Savior. And of course, the teenage helpers made a
fantastic contribution to the whole program.
What a time we had! Again VBS was
a huge success and we anticipate an even better time this year.
You may wonder if any
additional activities were added to the program since only a few children are
seen here. Yes, indeed. Here are a few:
- A Children’s Station of the Cross which was
enacted on Holy Saturday. Very well
done and well received by all participants.
- Since October every child in our congregation is
being prayed for daily by some members of the church.
- A new Children’s Church curriculum is in place
which you’ll hear more about as time progresses.
I have often appealed to your
for your assistance and I do so again.
You can contribute to this ministry by praying, offering your time, or
by making suggestions as to changes which can be implemented to upgrade this
program. We are open for changes. God bless you all.
Respectfully submitted,
Hyacinth Clunie
Daughters of the King
The Order of the Daughters of
the King is organized as a religious order.
Each daughter takes a lifetime vow to live by the rule of the order. The mission of this order is the extension of
Christ’s kingdom through prayer, service and evangelism.
Vision Statement: “Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision as
Daughters of the King is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others and
become reflections of God’s love throughout the world.” D.O.K. Handbook 2005 edition
At the time of initial
membership we make a vow to pray daily, serve and evangelize, to pay our dues
and funds promptly and to participate in all other offerings of the Order.
Activities in the Order
during 2010:
- Three new Daughters were admitted to the Order in
February. On a sad note, one
Daughter went home to be with the Lord.
We do remember her fondly and may her soul rest in everlasting
peace.
- We continue to do presentations at each
meeting. Each Daughter presents a
talk on one of the women in the Bible.
- Scripture passages and devotional readings are
shared with the members. We also
share with each other the blessings God has bestowed on us and how He
continues to work in our lives.
Members find the presentations and sharing an enhancement for their
spiritual lives.
- We organize and lead The Stations of the Cross at
noon on Fridays during
Lent.
- Join the Brotherhood of St. Andrew for their
corporate communion every fifth Sunday of the month.
- Our annual corporate communion celebrated on All
Saints Day at the 8:00 am
service, members present renewed their vows.
- Joined with the Episcopal Church Women to provide
refreshments after the Ascension Day service in May and also after the
Hymn Fest held in November.
- Several Daughters attended the spring retreat in
March; also the Deanery meeting held at Holy Apostles in Satellite Beach.
- Many Daughters attended the General Assembly in
September
- We hosted a Board meeting in May. Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Hazel
Kundinger in the absence of Rev. Loren Fox.
- Father Loren attended the meeting in February and
spoke to us about evangelism. Linda
Fox and Sharon Rohde followed with a presentation.
- Participated in Parish Ministry Faire
Missions Prayer Points for
Church of Our Savior:
- Our focus on a long term basis to pray for our
Parish life to be shaped biblically to witness both in our church and
beyond.
- Ask God to reveal to us through the Holy Spirit
how to contribute to new missions in the Parish life and help to enhance
the worship.
- We remain dedicated in praying for each member in
the Parish by distributing a list of members to each Daughter. This list is also activated to contact
members during times of emergencies and as directed by our Clergy, who
also provides us with monthly prayer notes in which we pray for activities
in and around the Parish. Not
forgetting to thank God for all his blessings.
- On Ash Wednesday we co-hosted a Quiet Day with
the Order of St. Luke. Father Loren
and Pastor Hazel were leaders.
Outreach:
- Francine Leonard (now also Deanery coordinator)
continues her work with the homeless, working with “Rock the Silence”
group providing gift bags in November.
Once again the congregation was generous with their contributions.
- We continue to acknowledge the “shut ins” with
tokens at Easter and Christmas.
- We continue our contribution to El Hogar in Honduras
yearly.
Plans for 2011:
- We will continue our focus on evangelism
presentations of the women of the Bible by members. Sharing and discussing
Bible verses and how God is working in our individual lives
- Continue to share our love and caring for each
Chapter member, also Parish members.
- We will also reach out to other chapters in the
Diocese.
- Our Rule of Service will continue – being
Christ’s faithful servants in the extension of His kingdom
- Regularly participate in the worship, study and
work of the Church
- Continue at all times to aid the clergy as is
necessary for the spiritual up-building of the Parish.

Eucharistic and Lector Lay Ministries
The
Lector and Lay Reader Ministry is made up of people who are approved by the
local Priest to read the Lessons during services. These readings currently
consist of the first reading (Old Testament), the Psalm, and the second reading
(Epistle). The Lectionary for the past year has been from the Year C readings.
On the first Sunday of Advent 2010, we began using the lessons for Year A.
The
Lay Eucharistic Ministries are made up of Ministers and Visitors. These are
licensed by the Bishop and are under the direction of the local Priest to
assist in the administration of Holy Communion. Ministers assist with the
distribution of the Elements at any Celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Visitors
are licensed to take the Sacred Elements, directly following a primary
Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, to members of the Congregation who were
unable to be present at the Eucharist. In our Parish, this translates into
three areas of service. The First Chalice is vested and serves in the Sanctuary
during the entire celebration. One or more others may serve as unvested Chalice
bearers during administration of the elements. The third area of service is
that of providing Extended Home Communion (EHC) to those of our parish who are
home bound or hospitalized. There are two different licenses for these
ministries. A chalice bearer is licensed as a Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM)
and one who serves EHC is licensed as a Lay Eucharistic Visitor (LEV). If a
person does both, two licenses are required.
We
started the year with 31 Lay Ministers. During the past year, 2 persons stepped
down, 2 persons stepped up, and 4 persons changed ministry participations. So
in addition to the youth readers, there are now 31 adults serving in one or
more of these ministries. Of these, 21 are scheduled as readers, 16 are
licensed as LEMs, and 10 are licensed as LEVs. We have found it rewarding to be
able to serve our brothers and sisters in these ways.
We
had 92 EHC visits scheduled this past year serving 9 individuals. Other visits
were made on an as needed basis for persons not on the schedule. The current
process is that EHC is taken to each regularly scheduled person once a month or
as otherwise desired by the recipient. There are currently 6 persons on our EHC
schedule.
This
year has seen several important changes. Bob Leonard has stepped down from the
position of scheduler/coordinator and has passed these responsibilities on to
Gail Naidu and Dcn Tom Williams. Gail is now responsible for scheduling readers
and LEMs. Tom is responsible for scheduling LEVs as part of his pastoral care
duties. In addition, this Advent we began using the Revised Common Lectionary
instead of the BCP Lectionary.
You
are welcome to take part in these forms of ministry in any of several ways. You
can keep us in your prayers as we serve. You are welcome to attend an EHC visit
by joining someone who is going out on Sunday. You can keep us up to date by
letting us know of those who may have need of the EHC ministry. You can join in
by committing your time to serve with us as a reader, LEM, and/or LEV.
Respectfully
submitted,
Bob
Leonard

coordinator)

Flower Guild
In the flower guild, it is
our responsibility to adorn the altar with flowers weekly and on other special
occasions. We are a small group of
women: Theresa Castrillo, Mary Davis,
Barbara Kaufmann, and Virginia Ingram. I
am pleased to say that we have a new addition to the guild. Dian Brown has joined our group in the past
year. It is our honor and pleasure to
alternate weekly preparing the flower arrangements.
The flower guild runs on the
contributions given in memory of or in thanksgiving for members of the
church. As always we thank you for your
generous support and positive comments.
God bless you.

International Order of St. Luke
Each year we try to tell you
something about the OSL and this year we would like to talk about the
emblem. The following is taken from our
handbook.
The emblem of the order is a
cross within a circle, which together make an acrostic. The motto is in Latin: Jesu Esto MiHi Jesus, Dux-Lux-Rex-Lex. Roughly translated means: “O Jesus, be to me my savior (healer), my
light, my king, and my law”
- Activities during 2010 included: on Ash Wednesday, February 17, together
with the Daughters of the King we had a combined Quiet Day at the Church,
conducted by Fr. Loren and Pastor Hazel of Blessed Redeemer.
2.
Our Annual
Healing Mission weekend was held on October 1 and 2. The Very Reverend Hugh Bromiley and his wife
Khara were our guest speakers and based their four teachings on Psalm 46:10,
“Be Still and Know that I am God.” Rev.
Bromiley and his wife have been active in the Order of St. Luke for
many years, and shared personal stories of their witness of God’s healing power
in the lives of people. Their sharing
inspired and brought much hope to us in our own suffering. We were truly blessed by their teachings.
3.
We added three
new members: Johanna Lyons, Sybil
Parkinson and Dorothy Gorbourne Gordon were inducted as full members during the
healing mission weekend.
4.
We continue our
study in “Digging Deeper.” Teachings from
this book are done by our Chaplain, Fr. Loren during our meetings on the third
Thursday of each month.
5.
For the year 2011
we are praying for guidance in the hope that God will open new ideas as we plan
to improve and expand this ministry to which God has called us to serve as His
instrument of healing. Fr. Loren will
focus on encouraging more participation from our OSL members during prayer time
on Sundays.

Pastoral Team
Greetings in the Name of the
Lord,
A spiritual smile spreads
happy faith, far beyond the doors of the church. So laugh your way through the
day with some happy humor.
The Pastoral team in
coordination with the Church office serves as a link between the Church expectant
and the sick in hospitals, rehab centers and homebound. The team also serve as
an outreach from Church
of Our Savior to the Life
Care Center of Palm Bay by conducting Morning Prayer services on the 1st and
3rd Sundays of each month at 10 am. We are most grateful to Fr. Loren for his
prayers for this ministry and the congregation of Church of Our Savior
for their prayers and support.
Yours in his service,
Ken Nunez
PowerPoint
Speaking for the PowerPoint
team, it has been a pleasure serving the congregation this past year. I wish to
thank Mike Sasko who contributed to this ministry the past several years. I
would like to introduce the team: Joe Auld, David Fox, Timothy Fox, Monica
Harris, Bob Leonard Greg Streck, Marty Merkt and Tom Dame.
This is a ministry that
supports several other ministries as we perform ours: Tape Ministry, Musicians,
Choir, Readers and Clergy to name a few. We continue seeking others to help run
the soundboard, computer presentation and recorders. This is a very rewarding
ministry in which you would enjoy participating. Come join us!

Prayer Circles
You will find a poster in the
parish hall, depicting our two prayer circles, inclusive of the names of our
members. The arrows go clockwise, the order in which the members call or e-mail
each other with a prayer request. However, should you wish to call in a name,
you may contact any one of us and your request will go around both circles
immediately. Names and/or situations are ALWAYS confidential with each member.
The names of our prayer
circle members are: First Circle: Ray Lynde, Rachel & Julian Korti,
Hyacinth Clunie, Christine & Dan Swatosh, Betty Palmer. Second Circle: Rita Martin-Giuffrida, Ray Byrd, Elsie Cruz,
Pat Krause, Rose Marson and of course, myself.
We on the Prayer Team, myself
included, take this ministry very seriously. We are dedicated prayer warriors
who enjoy spending time with Jesus. We have again been blessed in 2010 with
answers to our prayers as only HE can answer them. We KNOW without a doubt that
He hears every one of our prayers; we know too that He prays for you and me
daily and, when those blessed surprises of healing miracles come, we are beside
ourselves in joy! We find ourselves thanking Him over and over again! Here are
some of the healing miracles we have experienced in our prayer ministry:
Awhile back, Pat Krause was
to have surgery on her shoulder – everything was all set up for it with her
doctor. She decided to attend the Wednesday, 10:00 A.M. Healing Service. All that were present prayed
over her that morning. The next day, Pat was out of pain and her shoulder was
fine! She called her doctor, cancelled her surgery and her shoulder remains
fine to this day!
Deacon Mary Ellen Appleton
has been plagued with lumps in one of her breasts this year. Recently, she
discovered two more lumps in her other breast. After much prayer, she went to
her doctor. Shortly thereafter, Mary Ellen’s doctor declared her cancer free!
New Babies!
Babies are one of God’s
special miracles. Our church family was blessed with the birth of Ohin Hosey,
baby brother to Omari, in August and Ashton Bailey, baby brother to Hunter, in
December.
Twin baby girls, Emily and
Erin Hines, Virginia & Ed Hines’ granddaughters, were born prematurely and
spent much of this year in the hospital until they gained enough weight to go
home. Emily wasn’t gaining as fast as her sister. We prayed harder than ever.
Just before Christmas, the little ladies came home!
Little Amisha Ali – (10:00 Service) – broke her arm. One
of the two bones was in two, out of place and partially twisted – likely due to
Amisha turning her arm to break her fall. This happened on a Monday. On
Wednesday, when she went in for surgery to move the bones into the correct
position and to insert one or more pins to keep them stable, the pre-op team
discovered the bones to be completely and properly aligned! The doctor
cancelled the surgery and sent her home! Just to add to the wonder of it: Amisha had already been wearing a cast
preventing her from moving the muscles and bones. SO! Who moved the bones? To
God be the glory! AMEN!
We are so very grateful and
happy about so many answers to prayer this year -that Deacon Tom’s appendectomy
surgery went well and that he, so quickly, was able to get back and do the work
our Lord has called him here to do…for many KINDS of healings, too, not always
physical, that are going on all the time at our beloved “COOS.”
The longer I serve Him in
this Prayer Ministry, the more I learn about our loving, heavenly Father. The most
important thing I have learned this year is to have confidence in God – I mean,
REAL confidence, REAL trust – when it is so difficult at times to hang onto
that – when the doubt creeps in and you know you shouldn’t listen, but you find
yourself saying, ‘But what if….?’
I was so low at one point
that one night, I cried to Him, begging Him to send me a message. The very next
morning, I was being urged to turn on the Christian channel. It was a program I
don’t usually watch. I’m a Charles Stanley fan, and this was definitely not
Charles Stanley.
The very first word I heard
was ‘CONFIDENCE!’ and how there are so many places in the Bible where this word
is used – then the preacher (John Haggee) quoted from one of the passages:
‘Have confidence in the Lord and you will receive your reward!’ I had received
my answer! Praise to the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit!
Have
a most blessed new year, no matter what!
Much
Love to All, and please call me if you would like to come aboard our Prayer
Team and experience God in a new way.

Prayers of the People
The
Prayers of the People for the 10:30
Service, consist of the following readers:
Olga Christie, Hyacinth Clunie, Sharon Dame, Tom Dame, (substitute),
Shirley Flowers, Pat Krause and Joyce Talabay.
We
are always on the look-out for new voices – brothers as well as sisters to come
join us. We read a simple prepared script from the lectern each Sunday,
following the Nicene Creed. Please do pray about coming on board. We would love
to have you!
It
is so much appreciated by us readers to hear you in the congregation, speaking
out a name of a loved one or friend who is in the need of prayer – for after
all, these ARE the Prayers of the People! When you do this, we ALL join in
silently and pray for your person(s) too. There is so much power when the whole
congregation is united with you! We are of one accord. So! Never be shy about
speaking out in behalf of those needing prayer. Our Lord just may surprise you
one day when you learn HIS answer to your prayer in HIS house!
God Bless You!
Respectfully
and With Love,

Stephen Ministry
The Stephen Ministry
motto, “Christ Caring for People through People” captures the core truths about
what Stephen Ministry is and does. We serve as caregivers for parish members
referred by the rector. We have six certified Stephen ministers within the
parish group. Our prayer is that we will continue to provide caring
service to church members. To learn more about this ministry as a care receiver
or care giver, please contact Deacon Tom, 723-8032, or Betty Palmer, 953-4566.
Tuesday Morning Prayer
The Tuesday Morning Prayer
time begins at 10 am in the
Chapel located in the south end of the Education Building. We pray for an hour for the known needs of
the parish, the prayer requests listed on the Sunday Friendship forms, and the
prayer notes provided by Father Loren.
We are a small group with big expectations for what God can and will do
in our parish. Even if you are not
accustomed to praying out loud, you are welcome to join us because God hears
the silent prayers also.
May
you be blessed in this coming year of 2011.
