Ministry Profile: Youth Worker

Position is part-time (approx. 18 hours/week) on a one-year renewable contract

(June 2010)

 


Summary:

o   To start and begin building a youth ministry with a vision for a dynamic, growing and comprehensive ministry, which will include evangelism, discipleship, worship and missions, for middle school and high school youth, where each young person is invited to know and serve Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and the love of our Father in heaven.

 

Principles:

o   Youth are part of families

o   Youth are part of the whole Church

o   Ministry flows out of and through safe relationships

o   Youth desire to know God and to live significant and purposeful lives

o   Jesus Christ wants to engage youth in an adventurous faith

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

o   Communicate with each youth personally once a week by telephone, email, Facebook, or in person—e.g. build relationships with the youth

o   Organize & host a small group (e.g. Bible Study) for youth—with goal of four or more groups, one each for middle school and high school, for guys and gals 

o   Liaise with Acolytes

o   Coordinate youth at VBS/parish summer outreach

o   Coordinate our youth attending diocesan events (e.g. BCAD, Emerge, Camp Wingmann)—and attend two weekend events

o   Develop a ministry platform, e.g. one of the following, music, drama, sports, school tutoring, computers, etc., according to the gifts of the youth worker

o   Recruit a team of adults as a sounding board and as co-workers with the youth

o   Visit with each youth family at least once a year

o   Develop and communicate vision for on-going youth ministry in parish to the youth, their parents, and the parish

o   Propose and oversee calendar, budget, and resources, and coordinate accordingly with Vestry and staff—including to develop an action plan by the end of the first month

 

Qualifications:

o   Demonstrates a deep commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ

o   Upholds Scripture as God’s Word for his/her own life and for the youth

o   Values teamwork and open to a new model of ministry

o   Expresses the vision and faith to start and build up a ministry

o   Prior experience and/or education in youth ministry are desired

o   Will successfully complete “Safeguarding God’s Children” within first month
